ALPFA Convention 2023

ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) hosted their 51st annual convention in San Antonio, TX. Working with the Cre8tion Group, I was brought on as an event producer.

Working as an Event Producer

My main role was to work was to help co-produce the conference which took place in 2 locations: the Henry B. González Convention Center and the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. My work consisted of:

  1. Creating the show book & managing production schedules. Since we had multiple teams in 2 different venues, this served as a master document for the 4 main production teams. It included show schedules and call times, as well as venue info and contact information.
  2. Managing breakout rooms. While we had 2 teams and leads for the breakout rooms, there would occasionally be a high-level event ALPFA wanted a producer present for. I would arrive to make sure any connections were made between the talent and AVL teams.
  3. Editing & generating graphics for live production. A main part of the scenic design was 3 archways with 3 LED walls filling in the middle. I collaborated with Corey on the design work, helping make some real time edits to the scenic walls and the overall production graphics package.
  4. Calling the show. As we got into the middle of the week, there were multiple sessions and rehearsals happening simultaneously so 3 producers would rotate between sessions. This typically looked like interfacing between the client and presenters on stage and communicating with the production team about any last minute changes.

Notable Moments

I always find it special to be part of producing any event, no matter the content. On this show specifically, I really enjoyed one of the Veteran’s events. It was a unique opportunity to listen to a panel of highly successful Latino veterans give career and life advice to young students and veterans. It opened my mind to the unique challenges veterans, Latino veterans in particular, face in our society and I was grateful to be part of the team making that conversation happen.
