An issue I’ve always taken with WordPress was the back end. It’s fine for getting your content out there, but it was typically pretty clunky for navigating individual pieces of content. Due to the cluttered nature of the individual post or page editor, I turned to other apps like iA writer to provide a distraction-free, focused writing mode.
But as I explore creating custom digital creative spaces, I want to focus on the actual publishing process, exploring how to remove friction between idea, editing, and finally living on the web.
Already in my exploring, I’ve found WordPress has a built-in distraction-free feature with ‘spotlight mode,’ a way to simply focus on one block at a time. It may not be the end all replacement for focused writing apps, but it sure is a handy free tool in this journey to create digital studios online. Add a little custom php and you have your own custom writing platform, just 2 clicks away from being live on your digital studio.
