I remember the feeling of walking into the shed for the first evening I’d turned the heat on. It was … cozy.
The feeling was one of pleasant surprise. Party from the feeling of ‘I did it…the heat actually works,’ and partly due to the first time feeling the shed as sanctuary.
Much of the shed is inspired by cabins, a place of both retreat and shelter. So while the shed has all the modern amenities of WiFi and electricity, there’s always this part of it which maintains the call to escape; to get away and embrace those things which have the power to reorient the trajectory of our lives.

As I close the door and the heat dispels the cold air off my jacket, I’m transported to this time a year ago, before power, before insulation, to fond memories of being wrapped in layers with a mug of tea in hand, sometimes writing, sometimes reading, as the sun rises on this unrealized sanctuary space I find myself in. And how I dream about what it will one day become.
